I remember clearly the incident, living in Waundeg at the time this accident was on the main Ashvale Road, not too sure of the cause of this accident, I thought it was due to the lorry hitting the bridge wall (Old railway bridge from where the photograph was taken) and veering right into the house. I believe the Crown Hotel is to the left of the picture, you can just see the angle of the roof (Top left hand corner)
This photograph was taken in about 1955. I think the tanker was coming from Merthyr and failed to take the bend before hitting the house that was next to the railway bridge near the Crown Hotel. I can’t prove this but the house could have belonged to Dai Perry, headmaster of Dukestown School.
